House Renovation Weeks 26, 27 & 28: Paint, Paint and More Paint

It's been a while since I wrote a blog post, hope everyone had a very happy holiday season. We have been very busy, feel like a have been running from the moment I get up in the morning til I hit the pillow at the end of the day. We have done tons of painting and the finish carpenters finished up just before Christmas.

So here is what happened over the last few weeks.

Week 26

During week 26 the finish carpenters started to install the finish stairs and install our new kitchen cabinets, along with reinstalling our old ones. I still need to paint all of these, going to be quite the job. We are loving how large the new kitchen island is going to be. We continued to prime the second floor and started painting the trim in the bathrooms.

Week 27

We finally got to put some color on the walls, both upstairs bathrooms are finally finished being painted. Now onto the downstairs bath so that the tile guys can do their job. The tile for our bathroom shower got delivered this week as well.

Week 28

Super busy week, getting ready for Christmas and spending most nights at the house, prepping for the tile guys. We picked up the rest of the tile and finished the downstairs bathroom. The finish carpenters finished their work and we now have a beautiful railing for the stairs. The insulation crew came and blew in foam insulation in the attic. It was really a busy week.

Next week I'll have some more newly painted rooms to post as well as some installed tile. Getting closer.

House Renovation Week 24 & 25: Prep and Primer

We have been so busy over the last 2 weeks that I did not get a chance to write a blog post until now. On top of Thanksgiving and starting my Christmas shopping, the house was ready to be painted. To save money we decided to paint the house ourselves.

Week 24

Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday - purchased the painting supplies and the contractors finished up the trim on the second floor. Aaron and my Dad also went over at night to filled nail holes and tape. (My Mom's oven broke during this time as well, so that was interesting.)

Thursday - We ate Turkey! Yum!

Friday - We had a team of six sanding all the putty for the whole day. At night we went to Best Buy with my parents, we bought an oven and a fridge and they also bought an oven.

Saturday - Primer started to go on everything.

Sunday - A whole day of primer with a team of four.

Week 25

Monday - Took a break.

Tuesday  - My Mom and I did some more primer painting while both the kids were in school. Then at night Aaron and I worked on sanding kitchen doors in my parents basement.

For those of you who grew up in the 80s you might like this, my parents have a fraggle hole in their basement.

Wednesday - Aaron took the day off, our daughter had a concert at school in the morning and then it was more priming for the rest of the day.

Thursday - Worked on non-house related things.

Friday - Aaron took this day off as well, primed all day.

Saturday - Finally finished priming the second floor. Finish ceiling paint started to go on. Also had the girls come to the house and paint samples of colors on their walls.

Sunday - More ceiling paint.

Work on the inside was really ramping up this past week. We now have doors and the trim started to get installed.

MONDAY & TUESDAY - I did not take any pictures. There was a lot of activity, more decking for the front stairs and the start of interior door frames.

WEDNESDAY

The front steps and railing were completed on Wednesday, can not wait to walk up these steps everyday.

All the interior doors were delivered and started to be installed. Some of the window trim and window sills were also started.

THURSDAY -  no pictures.

FRIDAY

By the end of the week, the side steps and railing were finished, much more trim finished and the light switches were installed. The last one meant that we now have power and lights!

SATURDAY

On Saturday, the driveway pavers were taken up and the ground was leveled off. We'll be fixing the driveway when spring rolls around.

Avtion Toilet Paper Holder Review

"text-align: justify;"> Since we will most likely be moving back into our house in January. I was happy to receive a toilet paper holder from Avtion to review.

The over all construction of the holder is good. It's stainless steel which goes well with all our other fixtures in the bathrooms which are polished chrome.

It came with a protective layer of plastic on the top to prevent it from being scratched in transit. When I removed the protective layer from top it came off pretty easily, until I got to two knobs that hold the two pieces together. This is where I came into a problem, is pretty much impossible to get all the protective layer off around these knobs. I even tried using tweezers with not much luck.

It did do a good job of holding the toilet paper, but I can not recommend this product until they fix there packaging problem. #hook

Big week this week, all the drywall in the house was installed. Now when we walk through the house, we can really envision each room.

MONDAY

Happy Halloween

On Wednesday, I finished the outside of our doors, by adding the top coat. Also, the decorative shingles started being installed on the front of the house.

THURSDAY - No pictures. But, the drywall installers started.

FRIDAY

By the end of Friday, all of the decorative shingles were added to the front of the house. Next week the shingles will be added to the back of the house.

SATURDAY

When we stopped by the house on Saturday, we got to see what the drywall installers were working on for the previous two days. They finished drywalling the entire house, we have real rooms now, no more exposed studs.

We also noticed that the dumpster was removed. We really are moving into the next phase of this construction project.
