Quick & Easy Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Here is a quick and easy centerpiece that would work for many tables. The idea behind this centerpiece is that it be easy to create and easy to move when you need room on the Thanksgiving table. I decided to use a casserole dish that I had for the base so that it would be easy to move and I gathered most of the items in the centerpiece from around my house. I always like to re-purpose items to give them new life before buying something new.

Here is what I used:
  • Mason jars
  • Popcorn
  • Fake leaves from a garland
  • Casserole dish
  • Candles
  • Small pumpkins
  • Ribbon

The only things that I bought were the candles and the popcorn. This was a relatively cheap centerpiece for me to make.

I had my 3 year old help me assemble it, she had a great time, pouring the popcorn, sticking in the candles and leaves and weaving the ribbon.

I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!

Super Fast Table Runner

I thought it might be nice this year to have a Thanksgiving table runner. My decorations are metallic and natural colors, so I decided that a gold table runner would fit perfectly. I knew that I would not have a lot of time to complete it so here is what I did.

I had saved old gold curtains from an old apartment that my husband and I had years ago. All I did was fold the sides of the curtain in and iron to create a nice crisp edge. It literally took me a total of 5 minutes. This is something that you could even do Thanksgiving morning, plus it does not ruin your curtain. Super Easy!!

Last Minute Fall Wreath

With only 2 weeks to go to Christmas decorations I still did not have a fall wreath up on my front door. Last week I stopped in CVS and picked up some fall decorations for 75% off and thought, I should probably make these into a wreath.

I already had the plain twig wreath and a hot glue gun, so this wreath cost me about $2.50. CVS still has some fall decor items on clearance, I think they are now 90% off, they will probably be gone by the end of the weekend.

To create this wreath all I did was glue the decor items to the wreath.

I know, I know it isn't even Thanksgiving yet. But, since I started my Christmas shopping last weekend and the season is short this year, only 3 1/2 weeks, I thought I would share my past Christmas posts.

Paper Turkey Kid Craft

This craft is a quick craft that takes very little time to set up and can occupy your preschooler for a solid 20 minutes.

Here is what you need:

  • construction paper
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • cup
  • glue stick
  • crayon or marker

To create the body of the turkey trace the two ends of a cup. The larger end become the body and the smaller end becomes the head. Then just cut out the feathers, beak and feet and hand everything to your child. Once we put the head and body together my daughter did not need my help anymore and had a blast putting all the feathers, beak and feet on. Quick tip: have your child glue the feathers to the back of the turkey, when they have finished they turn it over and are amazed that the bird looks like a turkey.

DIY Apple Place Cards

My Mom hosts Thanksgiving every year. This year she is letting me and my daughter do some decorating, place cards and centerpiece. Here is an easy place card idea that you can create even the day of Thanksgiving if you wish.

What you need to create these place cards:

  • Apples
  • Paper
  • Toothpicks
  • Tape
  • Glue
  • Water
  • Plastic Bowl
  • Cotton Swab
  • Glitter
  • Plastic Leaves

The first step was to create a name tag. I created mine using Photoshop but you could easily do this by hand. Cut it out and tape it to a toothpick.

Stick the toothpick in the top of the apple.

Mix the glue and water into the plastic bowl and paint the plastic leaf using the cotton swab with the glue mixture. Then pour the glitter over the leaf. Shake off extra glitter. If you do not have glitter you could always use the leaf plain or paint it a pretty color. The final step is to glue the leaf to the apple. (Make sure you tell your guests not to eat the apple if you use the glitter.

Kid Craft: Pilgrim Hat

This is our 1st Thanksgiving related craft of the season. Last year we created many turkey themed crafts. This year I wanted to start out with a pilgrim themed craft.

All you need for this craft is construction paper, a glue stick and a stapler. You could make this hat before thanks giving or save it as a fun craft to keep the kids busy on Thanksgiving Day while you cook dinner.

I cut all the pieces out in advance and then had my daughter glue the hat together with the glue stick. Once she was done, I stapled the headband strip to the hat and fitted it to her head.

And Ta Da! You have a pilgrim hat.
