DIY Furniture Redos

Over the last few years I've been transforming furniture pieces to fit our home. I thought it would be nice to take a look back and share some of my transformations with all of you. I had a great time fixing these pieces up. In the next few weeks I will have a couple more pieces to share with you, to add to this list.

**SAFETY UPDATE** Cedar Chest Turned Outdoor Toy Chest

**After hearing about a recent tragedy where two children got trapped in a chest like this one and died, I wanted to make sure that anyone taking on this project to be aware of the dangers and take the right precautions so that this does not happen again. When transforming a chest like this make sure that you REMOVE THE LOCKING MECHANISM, this will allow for the chest to be opened from the inside out.**

When we bought my great-aunts house we ended up with lots of extra furniture. Some of it we gave away to other family members and others we have been slowly revamping and using in our house. This week my Mom and I tackled another piece, an old cedar chest slightly damaged was transformed into a outdoor toy chest for all my daughter's toys.

For this revamp I used green exterior paint that I had already bought for another project so this project cost me $0.00 and about 1 1/2 hrs.

Quick Side Table/Cabinet Redo

I've had this cabinet ever since they we moved into this house. My aunt used it as a record holder, does anyone still remember records, we use it as a place to store our dvds. It has been on my list of items to redo for awhile.

Before:

I decided that it would be easiest and fastest to use spray paint. There was hardly any finish left on this piece so I decided that I did not need to sand or strip the wood. Here is the end result.

After:

This was a pretty inexpensive, had the cabinet $0, had the knobs $0 and the spray paint which was Krylon Cherry Red cost about $8 for two cans. Total = $8.

Old Cabinet into Sports Fan Bar

Before:

My brother recently moved into a new place and I wanted to give him a house warming gift. When he was looking around our attic and I mentioned that I could probably make this old painted cabinet into a bar for him. He liked the idea and so I started sketching out my ideas.

I also turned to pinterest for ideas. Here is some of my inspiration:

Bar from TV Stand                                                            Bar from Music Cabinet

So I decided to take out the drawers, remove the door and take the top off. My Dad helped with the construction of the top of the bar, where the ice buckets sit. My brother is a big Red Sox/NE Patriots fan so I added vinyl decals to the inside of the top.

After:

The ice buckets are removable for cleaning and I also added wine glass holders underneath for more storage. I do not have the cost for this one because this was a gift for my brother so I was not paying as much attention to that. But, my best estimate would be somewhere around $75. For this project I bought paint, hinges, two buckets for ice (not made for ice but fit, bought at the container store) and wine glass holders.

Revamped Outdoor Chairs

I have been trying to find ways to update my home without spending a ton of money. One way that I have been doing this has been to revamp the furniture that I already have.

We bought these outdoor chairs a few years ago for very little money. At the time they were fine, but their color was not doing anything for me so I decided to spray paint them.

This took me about 1 nap time to finish (about 45 minutes). I had to split it into two because I only bought one can of spray paint for all 4 chairs and had to go back to Lowe's to get 3 more cans.

Total I believe I paid about $12 for the spray paint, do not remember what we paid for the chairs but not much. Our patio is staring to look better already.
